Baseball star Asdrúbal Cabrera sold his custom-built South Florida mansion for $7.41 million this week.

Part of a gated community in Southwest Ranches in Broward County, the 9,363-square-foot residence sits on a more than 2.5-acre lot and has sunset views from nearly every room, according to Giselle Bonetti of Coldwell Banker Realty’s Weston office. She shared the listing with Nayrobi Garcia, also of Coldwell Banker.

The home was first listed in December 2020 for $8.9 million, according to listing records. The price was cut to $8.3 million in July. Mr. Cabrera, 35, and his wife, Lismar Del Valle Barrios, bought the underlying property in 2016 for $1 million, according to property records.

“He wanted to do Miami chic combined with land,” Ms. Bonetti said, adding that in the city, that’d could cost $30 million or more.

Southwest Ranches is a very exclusive area with larger plots of land that offer privacy and views, she noted. Ms. Bonetti has helped five athletes like Mr. Cabrera move to the area in the last three or four years, and they are tearing down older Mediterranean homes in favor of modern residences with clean lines and walls of glass.

“People want to start from scratch,” she explained.

Mr. Cabrera worked with Miami-based architecture firm Choeff Levy Fischman on the design, but the Cincinnati Reds infielder never actually lived there. During the construction period, his daughters became horse lovers, and the family moved to a home in the area better suited for equestrian life.

“The home is so contemporary, and it would not have looked good with a barn in the back,” Ms. Bonetti said.

There is a separate gym building, and ample space for another guest house, she added.

Other amenities include seven bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, floor-to-ceiling glass windows, a chef’s kitchen, a spa and a home theater, according to the listing. There’s also a fire pit, a half basketball court and separate staff accomodations.

The buyer purchased the home through a limited liability company, records show. Ms. Bonetti declined to identify him, but said he is a European businessman who had been living in Miami. Property records for the sale are not yet publicly available.

Miguel Serrano of Douglas Elliman brought the buyer to the Southwest Ranches property.

“The area is quickly becoming the Hamptons of Southeast Florida,” Mr. Serrano said in an email.

Born in Venezuela, Mr. Cabrera made his Major League Baseball debut in 2007, and has played for the Cleveland Indians, the Washington Nationals, the Tampa Bay Rays and the Texas Rangers, among others.

He is a two-time All-Star and won an American League Silver Slugger award in 2011.

Besides the Reds, he also played for the Arizona Diamondbacks this season.

Representatives for Mr. Cabrera did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
